Bushkill Township Volunteer Fire Company was established in 1959 and currently consists of four divisions:  Fire, EMS, Fire Police, and Ladies Auxiliary.  The Fire Company and Ambulance Corp. are operated by volunteers, covering the 25 square mile Township and its population of approximately 7,500 residents. The Fire Company, including Rescue and EMS, also provides mutual aid service to surrounding communities when requested.

During 2006, the Fire Company realized that protecting Township residents was more important than tradition.  With the growing number of homes and structures throughout the township and increased time demands and constraints on dwindling volunteers, it was not possible to provide professional and efficient all volunteer emergency services during daytime hours.  Therefore, during July 2007, the Fire Company added service paid EMTs to cover 12-hour shifts from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. This ended a 48-year run at being 100% volunteer. The paid positions are funded largely through the impressive fundraising efforts of the Fire Company, including significant work by the Ladies Auxiliary. According to Allen Smith, "It's a small price to pay, however, when compared to the value of the protection afforded to the residents of Bushkill Township."

Township residents are encouraged to volunteer with the Fire Company, as well as to support fundraising activities which include:

- BINGO - is played every Wednesday evening at the Fire Hall.  Doors open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m.  The hall is newly renovated, air-conditioned, and non-smoking.  Weekly BINGO includes an early-bird special, 21 regular games, 5 novelty games, and several 50/50 games prior to the $1,000 jackpot round.  Rip-open tickets are also available for purchase.  Additionally, the Fire Hall kitchen serves its famous pizza, chicken fingers, hotdogs, and hamburgers; so no need to make dinner at home on Wednesdays!

- Breakfasts - are served home style every second Sunday of the month (except July and August) from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with specials near Valentineís Day, Motherís Day, Fatherís Day, and Christmas.  The menu generally includes: scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, cream chipped beef, Belgian waffles, bacon, scrapple, ham, fried onions, home fries, cheese sauce, cereal, coffee, and juice (orange, grapefruit, and tomato).  Cartoons are played for children.  Cost: Adults - $8, Children (age 6-12) - $4, Children (under 6) Ė FREE, and Seniors - $5.

- Annual carnival - held during mid-summer each year at the Fire Hall facilities.  The Carnival features amusement rides, games, and excellent home-cooked foods, including fresh clams.  Fire Company volunteers also provide free rides on the fire trucks for interested attendees.
